My descent into hospitality

Straight out of university I was in desperate need of a job (thanks, art and design degree) I'd signed a lease with my best friend for a 2 bedroom flat in Liverpool and needed to be able to pay the bills.

I job juggled for a while and this is how I ended up falling into hospitality.

I started with an agency based in Liverpool who sent staff to racecourses, football stadiums - that kinda thing. Relatively unskilled. I applied for the job and they called me a few days later asking if I was available to work the following day. Of course I was. Within the hour I was in the offices signing the paperwork- like....what!?? And thus began my hospitality addiction.

From there I joined a slightly more prestigious if that's the word I'm looking for, agency. They also did racecourses and stadiums - but instead of clearing tables in the standard lounges that offered a buffet and a pint with your ticket. We're talking owners lounges/boxes. Open bars with signature cocktails. Whiskeys on offer that probably cost more than my yearly rent.

You get the gist.

Whilst there I also began working at a Liverpool nightclub. I could do a 22.30-5am bar shift and then be on my way to an all day event 9am-9pm and back just in time for my next bar shift. It was f*cking insane. I survived solely off redbull, nicotine and tesco meal deals. And looking back on it - we're some of the best days of my life.

Over the years I've jumped from agencies, to hotels, to restaurants and coffee shops. I've seen it from all angles.

I'm not sure if I can name these companies...but im sure I can indirectly give some of them away.
Obviously over the years I've signed quite a few NDAs and I ain't about to break them. I can just about afford the cost of butter and coffee in this cost of living crisis. I certainly can't afford a lawyer.

So here we go....from the depths of a famous Liverpool nightclub 3 nights a week that was just Krazy to serving insanely rich people to circling back to the most demanding of clinetelle - the general public - let's tell some stories!!!

Storytime!!!

Well, hello. I'm a 30 something full time working mum. I fell into the hospitality industry fresh out of university and well over a decade later....im still here. Over the years I have shared with family, friends and colleagues some insane, hilarious and to be quite honest...horrifying stories. So I've decided to write them down. Maybe you're in the industry and can relate. Or maybe you escaped and now just have flashbacks. Or maybe you've only ever been a customer and never realised how we see these interactions from our POV. Either way - I hope you join me H x
